LOCAL AND GENERAL
The ordinary monthly meeting of tiie Patca Pluuket Society Committee will be held on Priday at 2.45 p.m. An owner is required for a yearling Holstein heifer, straying on Mr Lord’s property at Kakaramea. “If every local association had done as much to advertise Patea as the local Amateur Athletic Association has, the town to-day would have a population live times the present number,” said a speaker at the annual meeting of the association held on Monday night, his remarks being greeted with a chorus of “Hear, hear!” Mr P, A. Lawlor, N.Z. representative of “Aussie” and “Humour,” visited Patea on Tuesday. Speaking to a “Press” representative, Mr Lawlor commented on the remarkable number of sales of periodicals in this country. He stated that figures showed that, comparatively speaking, New Zealand is the biggest reader of magazines in the world. Publishers at Home and abroad realise this, and as a result the competition is remarkably keen. “Aussie” and “Humour,” he added, hold their own against any of ilm imported publications, the former holding the record of having the largest circulation of them all, with its 15,0U0 New Zealand subscribers.
