WAVERLEY BRASS BAND

ORDINARY MEETING The ordinary meeting of the WuverIcy Brass Band was held on Monday night, Mr. .T. Popper presiding over a good attendance of members. The minutes of the previous mooting were read and continued. Thanks. It was decided on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr. Eyre, that a hearty vote of thanks bo accorded Mrs. J. K. Mitchell and Miss Mitchell for their generous offer to donate half the proceeds of their dance recital to be held in the Waverlcy Town Hall on Thursday, 21st inst. to the Band Bustentation Fund. It was further resolved on the motion of Mr. W. Nicholls, seconded by Mr. Bourne, that a dance and supper be held after the recital, and that Mrs. and Miss Mitchell and pupils bo the guests of the Band at this function. Band Selections. The Chairman stated that Mrs. Mitchell had expressed a desire that the Band should play an overture. He (the speaker) thought it an excellent idea, and would move that Mrs. Mitchell’s request be acceded to. Seconded by Air. Eyre and carried unanimously. It was also unanimously resolved that Messrs D. C. Nicholls and W. T. Eyre be appointed to act as joint stage managers for the recital. The meeting then closed with the usual vote of thanks to the chair.

El liott Dexter plays opposite Miss Line Cavalieri in the character of Harr; Calthorp, who has spent all his fortum on this vampire and is faced with ruin ation. This perfect drama is supported by a Burton Holmes Travelog sine a Mack Sennett comedy. All movie fans ought to see this grand programme.

WAVERLEY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

ORDINARY MEETING <4 The ordinary monthly meeting ol the Wavcvlcy School Committee was held in the Town Board’s meeting roon on Monday evening, Mr. C. H. Sonthcomhc presiding. Messrs H. Middleton, A. J. Adlam, P. C. Paris, A. O. Hemingway, G. 3VT. Beer, T. W, Wall and Mr. Banks (Headmaster) were also present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows : The Education Board wrote notifying the date of the summer school vacation and drawing the Commit tee’s attention to the conditions governing the subsidising of voluntary contribution. Headmaster’s Report. The Headmaster reported on the work of the school, the report being favourable. He further drew the Committee’s attention to some necessary repairs required in connection with the school. It was decided to refer the question of repairs to the Grounds Committee with powyr to act. Accounts. Accounts totalling £l9 11s 7d were read and passed for payment. School Requisites. The Chairman stated that the towels and dusters in use at the school were becoming worn and would soon be useless. If the work of the school was to proceed satisfactorily these items must be replaced. Ho would move that the Headmaster be authorised to procure new towels and clusters. Mr. Middleton seconded the motion, which was carried. Then; being no further business to transact the meeting closed.

MEMORIAL COMMITTEE

The members then sat us the Memorial Committee. The minutes of the previous meeting •were road and eontlrmcd. Funds. The Chairman stated that he considered it high time the work which had t.een entrusted to tlio Committee to proceed with he gone on with. A good sum of money was still to come in and ho would move that all money promised for the Memorial fountain Fund be collected forthwith so that the work might proceed. Mr. Faris, in seconding the motion, endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks, and said he hoped to sec the work starlecd almost immediately. The motion was put and carried. * „ This concluded the business of the meeting and the Committee rose.

NOTES.

Mrs. J. Willcox and family, in another column, tender their thunks tor the many kind messages ot sympathy icceived during their recent bereavement. Through an oversight we stated in our last issue that Mrs. J. K. Mitchell •was holding a dance recital in the Wavcriey Town Hall on Friday, November 21st. This should have read Miss Maude Mitchell and not Mrs. Mitchell; aa stated.
