A TARANAKI BISHOPRIC

A New Plymouth Memorial.

The Taranaki Herald states —In connection with tbe scheme for mak* ing Taranaki a separate Bishopric,, the vestry of St Mary’s decided to send a memorial to tbe Bishop of Auckland asking him whether the scheme bad bis approval and suggest* ing that.on bis forthcoming visit in August he should address meetings of chmcbpeople in the various parishes of this Archdeaconry with reference to to the proposal. In reply the vicar (Rev A H Oolvile) ghas received the following letter ;— •* I am in favour of the scheme, and much regret that it was not made tbe first and chief work of the Church in connection with the Marsden Centenary. I shall be glad to do what I can when I visit Taranaki. I quite realise that Ihe growing requirements of Auckland itself need a groat deal of the Bishop’s time, and that Taranaki needs and deserves more time from the Bishop thsn he can possibly give.” “
