Fire Brigade
As a result of the damage done to the liosr on Monday night," the Waverley Fire Brigade are in the unfortunate, and somewhat/ludicrous position of not Laving a length of sound hose to their name. Yesterday; however, they arranged with the Patea Brigade for the loan of 150 feet, niid so, for the time being, the brigade will be efficient up to that distance, A good deal of discussion lias taken place over the extraordinary position in which the brigade are placed, and everyone is convinced that immediate stej 8 will have to be taken to raise funds for the brigade. The question of calling a meeting of ratepayers has been mentioned by several members of-tlio T.nvn Board, and we hope this will bo dono without delay. The tinio is opportune and if a meeting is held within the next few days, before the present interest has died down, some way of raising money is bound to be adopted. As is often the case, the ladies have oome to the rescue while the men were thinking about it, and yesterday Miss Muir took round a subscription list. Mr Muii* headed it with a' substantial donation, and several others have pledged themselves for various amounts. Miss Muir is to be congratulated in making a move to assist the brigade, and it is to bo hoped that others will follow her example. Though a subscription list has been started, a public meeting should bo held to take steps to put tho Brigado on u sound footing.
