SCHOOL GARDENS.
This Year's Prizewinners.
Some very creditable work has been done this season by" the pupils at the Patea school, in the way of amateur gardening. Judging by the tidy and healthy appearance of the various plots of vegetables and flowers, it is evident that a good deal of care and attention is devoted to this useful work by many of the children, who have been encouraged in their work by the prospect of winning prizes for the best kept gardens.
Two prizes were, offered this year, one by Mr E. C. Horner for the beat kept flower garden, and the other by Messrs Boyle and Jones for the best kept vegetable garden. The gardens were duly judged the other evening, and the prizes were awarded as follow : —Best kept flower garden—pupils in standard 111 first, pupils in primer 111, second. Best kept vegetable garden Percy Hill and Dick Kennedy 1, Eileen Hulbert, Beta Locker and Sam Campbell 2.
