A representative meeting of Waverley tradespeople was held on Tuesday evening, Mr Muir presiding. The Chairman stated that the meeting had been called to consider the Saturday evening entertainments in the Town Hull, as several business n»pn had complained of the injurious effect these entertainments had on their trade on a Saturday night. After considerable discussion, it _ was resolved, that a deputation be appointed to interview the Town Hall Company to see if some understanding could be come to which would prevent the Town Hall from being let on a Saturday evening. Messrs Palmer and Dixon were elected to form the deputation. It was also agi ued that the Patea Tradesmen’s Association be asked.to send a copy of their constitution and rules, with a view to forming a similar association in Waverley. A vote of thanks to the chair brought the meeting to a close. At a meeting of the Waverley Holiday Association on Tuesday evening, it was resolved that the secretary be instructed to take a vote of the shop-keepers in town, to see whether they were in favor of closing on Saturday, the 2ud of January. The local Literary and Debating Society hold their annual general business meeting on Thursday evening. Dalgety and Co. have advertised that, they will sell by auction on the farm, Waverley, 100 dairy cows, belonging to Mr E. P. Blake. The concert to be given by the school children on Friday evening is worthy of a large audience. The proceeds are in aid of the prize fund. The danger of meddling with acetylene gas, was’ emphasised the other_ day, when two Waverley boys, with an inventive turn of mind, found a lump of carbide in a shed about town. This they proceeded to place in an empty oil drum partly filled with water, which they sealed up. A light was then applied to the hole, and the result was a violent explosion. Fortunately the youthful experimenters escaped serious injury, but both required the services of a doctor. Considerable damage was done to the shed. i
