MR HUTCHISON AND THE PREMIER.
Wellington, Sept. 27. The Hon. Mr McKenzie moved the following motion, “ That a select Committee be appointed to ascertain whether all or any of the allegations reflecting personally on the Eight Hon. E. J. Seddon, or his relative, the late Nathaniel Seddon, made by Mr Hutchison, the member for Patca, in his speech in the House, on Tuesday, the 23rd ult., are in substance true or false, and to report their opinion thereon with power to call for persons and papers, the Committee to report within 14 days, three to be a quorum ; the Committee to consist of Mr Eolleston, Mr Duncan, Mr Dutliie, Hon. Mr Ward, Mr Massey, Mr Morrison, Mr Sligo, Mr Graham and the mover. Mr Wason moved as an amendment that that Committee also enquire into certain charges made by the Hon. Mr McKenzie against the member for Patea. The Government party voted solidly against this, and it was lost. Mr Pirani moved to strike out the name of the Minister of Lands from the Committee, because of his being obviously biased in favour of his colleague, the Premier, and to substitute Mr Smith, the member for Christchurch.
This was also rejected.—Chronicle
