THE RESULT OF A SOUFFLE. Auckland, Nov. 25. This morning one of the seamen of the brigantine Linda Tucker, owned by the Cook Island Trading Company, was taken > to the Hospital. la a scuffle at the end of the Railway Wharf, near midnight on Saturday, he got his head laid open with a brick. He is a Cook Island native named Matato and the natives on the brigantine hearing his cries came to his assistance. He lies at the Hospital in a critical condition, and the case is likely to end fatally. \ The police are investigating the affair. SLY GROG SELLING. Palmerston North, Nov. 26. At the Police Court to-day Hettie Cropp was fined £SO, in default three months’ imprisonment, for sly grog selling. A similar charge against Cecilia Jacobsen was dismissed.
