PATEA HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above Board took place yesterday, when there were present —Messrs Deane (chairman!, Bahnforth, Fisher, Major, 0. Symes and Wilson. Minutes of former meeting read and confirmed. Correspondence read and dealt with. Eeferring to the correspondence re bale hoops, the chairman moved, ‘ ‘ That the Board obtain twenty tons of steel bands, with a proportionate amount of studs, immediately.” The chairman said he moved the resolution because they were out of hands, and he noticed that although they occasionally obliged others with hoops. No one ever had a hoop when that Board was in want of some. Mr Symes seconded the resolution, and it was carried unanimously. The chairman then moved, “ That a donation of £3 3s be handed to the Patea Fire Brigade in recognition of their services at the late fire.” Seconded by Mr Balmforth and carried. Wharfinger’s report read, acknowledging arrival of a ton of hoops, and asking Board to procure further supply as owing to increased business the lot now under order would not see him through the winter; also reporting that the Waitapu had collided with the wharf damaging the steps, which had since been repaired ; also asking for about five yards of gravel for cattle wharf —Report adopted. Pilot’s report read, stating channel very good, being straight out, with 11ft on bar at springs and 7ft Gin at neaps. He also wiote stating that the harbour light was not a first-class light, as it had only a common glass instead of a prismatic glass, but in clear weather should bo visible for about six miles. As, however, in early morning—the time when vessels most wished to pick up a light—it was often hazy. He' suggested procuring a light like the old one—fourth order.— Report received. Statement of accounts shewed available balance £1,052 10s 4d. Accounts amounting to £92 Gs Id were passed for payment. Mr Major moved, and Mr Wilson seconded, “ That the sum of £3OO be placed on fixed deposit for twelve months.’ —Carried, Moved by Mr Balmforth, seconded by Mr ISymes, “ That the rents on the books to the debit of Urquhart, Hudson and Dempsey bo written off as unrecoverable . ’ ’ —Carr ie d, Moved by Mr Symes, seconded by Mr Balmforth, “That Block XXVI he advertised tor lease tor seven years, excluding Mr Eyton’s section.” —Carried. ’ TJm Board then adjourned.
