THE TRINITY COLLEGE MUSICAL EXAMINATIONS.
Auckland, Oct. 7.
The first local examinations in practical music under the direction of Trinity College, London, was held on Saturday. The examiner was Mr Myles B. Foster, well known as an experienced musician of high ability and successful composer. Twenty-four candidates were examined, and the examination lasted the whole day. The report of the examiner is to be sent direct to the authorities of the College, by whom the result will he communicated to the candidates. Mr Foster left to-day by the Takapuna for the south, and will hold similar examinations in the various centres of the Colony. SUDDEN DEATH OF A RAILWAY WORKMAN. Auckland, Oct. T. Henry Turner, labourer, Newmarket Railway Workshops, died suddenly early this morning. He had been at work yesterday mominer, and took ill in the afternoon. He leaves a widow. A PHRENOLOGIST IN TROUBLE. Auckland, Oct. 7. At the Police Court to-day proceedings were taken against Professor Ernest Thripp, who has been doing business as a phrenologist, palmist, &c. Mr McAlister, instructed by Mr Tole, Crown Solicitor, appeared for the prosecution. Defendant, who was not represented by counsel, gleaded guilty, and chose to be dealt with summarily.. He was fined 21s with costs.
