The ship Borrowdale, Gapt. Bolderstou, which arrived at Port Chalmers on Monday, after a passage of 99 days from New York, encountered a succession of heavy gales in crossing the Southern Ocean. On August IfJih she shipped a heavy sea, which carried away the stanchions of Iho starboard bulwarks, u b'at’s skids, the whole starboard side and two thirds of the fore part of the after-house. The second officer, who was caught by this sea, was injured. The Union Company’s steamer Oonah, which has just arrived at Sydney from Hobart, bad a perilous voyage. She encountered heavy gales or the Tasmanian coast, and after being four hours out from Hobart an accident happened to the high pressure cylinder. Hud the accident occurred half an hour before it did the vessel would have been on the lee shore, and owing to the frightful pitching would have been quite helpless. The engineers took nine hours to disconnect the cylinders and put the vessel under the compound engines.
