THE VICTORIAN BUDGET.
Mel:dou.kne, July 31. The Colonial Treasurer, the Hon G. Turner, in delivering his Budget speech in tbe Legislative Assembly, said that the revenue for tbe year, including £200,000 expected from the income tax (of which £140,000 had been collected), was £6,009,000, or £250,000 more than tbe estimate, leaving a deficit of £115,000, making tbe accunvnlateddefioit, £3179000. The saving on the estimated expend! l * lure for the year had been £227,000. The railway receipts were £IOB,OOO le.is than tbe previous year. Toe estimated revenue for tbe coming year is £6,803,000, and the expenditure £6,784,000. Duiing the year selectors had gone to the bad to the extent of 17,000, and tbe total owing by them was £658,000. The total railway expenditure in excess of income to date has been £7,978,000. The total public debt is £47,932,000, tbe interest on which is £1,860,000. He hoped to secure increased savings and further economies in public services. He was glad to say the colony bad again commenced ascending, and there were signs that prosperity was returning. The Supply Bill has passed all its stages.
