THE LABOUR PARTY CONDEMNED BY MINISTERIALISTS.
The Auckland election ought to sbow the “ Labour Party ” what its so-called friends, the Seddonians, think of it. Be - fore Mr Pavvcus retired the abuse that was heaped on the Labour Party by the Ministerial organs in Auckland was pbeno menal in its venomousuess. We quote the following passages: —“ Having pampered “ the Labour dog until the brute was “ fractious from over-feeding, and from “ incapacity to digest that already given “ him, the Government are surprised and “ outraged because the animal, after the “ mannerjof its kind, has turned round and “ bitten the hand from which it has been “so over liberally fed.” What do the working men think of the nick-names applied to them ? “ Dogs,’, “ brutes,” animals,” “ biting the hand that has over-liberally fed them !” Then it will be noticed that this Ministerial paper says Ministers are “surprised and outraged.” The inspiration of the article is therefore direct from Ministers. Here is another passage that the workers may consider at their leisure :—“ It will show the folly of “ legislating solely for a class ever con- “ sideredat once ignorant, and ungrateful. The ‘ pore working man,’ which usually “ means the p®t-house loafer, is not an “ angel without wings after all:” Talk about scurrilous journalism after that! We venture to assert t hat in no so-called '“Tory” journal were the working men ever characterised as by this Ministerial journal. But, notwithstanding this cruel j and unmerited criticism, it is said the Labour Party voted as this same Ministerial journal told them. We would like to know how their brothers in Wellington enjoy the treatment the Labour Party has received in Auckland. “ Dogs,” *• brutes,’ * “ignorant,” “ungrateful,” ‘ pot-house loafers ” —we must say the language is choice, if not extensive. And yet some of the Labour Party think the present Ministry cares for them. These extracts ought to show them that their votes are looked for, and Bills will be given them in shoals, but as for any real love for them, Ministers have none.—Post.
