THE LAWS WELL CARRIED OUT. Wellington, July 30, The Rev Dr Cook, of Boston, met the New Zealand Alliance to-day, and in a prolonged interview said that prohibition in the prohibition States of America has reduced drinking at least 80 per cent: that illicit slid liquor was not greater, but less, than under license ; that generally the prohibition laws were as well enforced as other laws ; that in 41 out of 44 States temperance teaching was compulsory in tbe public schools under pain of withholding a portion of the school grant; that tbe churches generally were adopting the doctrine of the American Methodist Church ; that the liquor traffic could not be legalised without sin. They were excluding liquor sellers from church membership, and condemning the incon* sistency of voting for license while refus> ing membership to licensees.
