“ hour pounds of beef for threepence ” is the notice exposed in the windows of a number of butchers’ shops in Sydney. A new electrical hair cutting and singing apparatus has been. introduced from America. It consists of a comb, the teeth of which arc covered with platinum wire, a simple contrivance by means of which this wire is raised to a bright heat. The appaiatus on being moved through the hair cuts it evenly. An amusing incident, related to the correspondent of the Now York World by Mr Henry Labouchere illustrates tbe urn looked for character of tbecrisisby which the Rosebery Government went out nt Mr Labouchere and Sir William Harcourt met on the terrace of the House, and Sir William said kindly to Mi Labouchere, “ How dull the day has been without a crisis ?” How is it you have not provided one?” Mr Labou* cbere was replying that he did not know bow to get up a crisis on the Auny Estimates, when tbe bell rang announcing that a division had been challenged, They went in together, and that division was followed by tbe most serious crisis that tbe Government bi»4 to face, », /A?
