Melcouka’E, May 2), It is reported that when the police paraded at the barracks this morning the men were warned to be on the alert, as it was believed that “Jack the Kipper,” the alleged author of the Whitechapel horrors, had arrived in the colony, the police having received information that he had been seen in Melbourne. Humours of the warning were afloat in the city during the day, and caused great sensation. . May 22. The police have received a letter signal "Jack the Kipper,” apprising them of his airival in Australia, and announcing his intention to enter upon a career of crime here similar to ius performances in L muon, and the West Indies.
