A PLEASANT COMPANION

A prisoner who was brou ht up on remand at Plymouth Police Court recently on a charge of obtaining £ls by false pretences, made an extraordina'y statement with regard to two murders he said he had committed. He was charged in the name of Shad well, with two aliases, but his i eal name is Henry de Nobielie. His story is, that in Paris where his father is a physician, he and another young man named Grevee, were in love with the same ydung lady. Subsequently, they both obtained berths on board a barque as first and second mates respectively; ' The prisoner says that fearing Grevee was treacherous, he he shot him and threw him overboard. Shortly afterwards .the captain died, and the prisoner , brought the barque back to Hull, where he said both of the missing men had died of yellow fever. He adds that in 1883. he was confined in the Wakefield Asylum for some months and this part of his narrative has been confirmed on enquiry by the Plymouth police. After his release he obtained two sovereigns from an asylum official, and returned to Paris, whe'e he induced the young lady with Whom he ha 1 been keeping company to return with'him to Goole. Here he says he induced her to walk with him into the conntry, where he shot her and buried her body in a field. The prisoner s statements are being inquired into.
