The Woodstock election took place to-day, Lord Randolph Churchill was re-elected by a majority of 137. The whole of the members of the new Ministry have been returned by their constituents. The election of a member for the Borough of Wakefield, in the room of Mr Robert B. Mnckie (Liheral)decenscd, has resulted in the return of Mr Grun, the Conservative candidate. It is stated upon good authority that a detachment of British troops will garrison Aksheeb, a position in the Dongola district.
July 4. The New Zealand mails, dated Auckland, May 26, via San Francisco, were delivered here yesterday. It is announced tbat Sir Peter Lumsden, the British representative on ihe Afghan Frontier delimitation commission, has had the Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath conferred upon him. The Guards who have been nt Alexandria for some weeks past have now left i hat place and have proceeded to Limasol in Cyprus. Tenders are invited on behalf of the Napier Haibour Board for a loan of £.800,000 at 4= per cent, the minimum for which has been fixed at par. Tenders will close on July 13th. MADRID, July 4. The cholera scourge still continues to rage with great violence. The number of cases reported throughout the country this week is 9000, of which 4000 had a fatal termination. CAIRO, July 3. Lord Wolscley, who lias for some time past been at Smikim, is returning to England. (special to press association.) LONDON, Jniy 2. Twelve thousand eight hundred feet extra space at the Colonial Exhibition nr ■ now available for rateable division amongst the Australian colonies. The brother of the Earl of Ayl sford, who died suddenly in Texas on the i3th. of January, has been awarded the title, it having been proved that the Countess’ infant son is a bastard. The Duke of Cambridge claims the Dukedom of Brunswick.
