A BABY’S ADVENTURE.
A remarkable incident occurred on the Midland 'railway at Bifihingham. A lady, bn reaching Satley Junction with a quantity of luggage and a baby, was told that'she must change for New street station. In her hurry she placed, her bady in a first-class compartment, and then went to the goods-vah to see after her boxes ; but before she could return to the compartment where she had deposited the infant, the train started, leaving the terrified lady standing on the platform. Almost distracted, she cried out for help, and fainted away, but, on recovering consciousness, was placed in a cab with instructions to be driven to the central station, Birmingham, as fast as possible. The baby in the meantime had been carried through the tunnel, kicking and screaming to the alarm of other passengers in the train, and on arrival at New street was fqutid, to the astonishment of the railway officials, to bo the only occupant of the carriage. It was first imagined that some one had deserted the child, and a conference was held as to what had beat be done with it. Just at this time a gentleman sauntered up, and inquired what was the matter. Before an explanation could be given him, the baby, who had been so far crying and screaming lustily, suddenly began to clap its hands and look pleased, whereupon the gentleman exclaimed, “ Why, dear me, this is my'own little niece.” The gentleman had arrived at the station with the intention of meeting Ids sister. Naturally the greatest excitement prevailed as to what had become of the mother, but the arrival of the. affrighted lady in a cab, however, quickly set matters right,
