NARROW ESCAPE PROM POISONING.
3?layingr With ALrsenic.
There was a very narrow escape from a poisoning tragedy near Hawera on Wednesday afternoon. Three children of Mr Loft, a resident employe on Mr J. W. Partridge’s farm, near the Waingongoro, stumbled across a package of arsenic, kept on the premises for sheep dipping purposes, we presume,
and at once began to play with it, throwing the stuff at each other, and setting quantities in their hair and abont their clothes. Seme of the poison also found its way to the children’s mouths, and the usual symptoms set in. The position of .affairs being discovered by one of the parents, Dr Alexander was sent for, and meanwhile Mr Partridge applied emetics. The doctor arrived promptly, and used the stomach pump freely. The children continued very ill, one of them occasionally approaching a state of collapse. However, the remedies happily proved efficacious. Dr Alexander visited the farm again about 10 p.m., when the, children were much better, and yesterday they were playing about as usual.—Friday’s Star .
