Mr Thomas llussellj C. M. G„ was entertained at dinner by members of the Northern Club last night, prior to his departure for England.- He spoke very warmly on the progress made by Auckland, and its future prospects. He believed the export of meat would work a change little dreamt of in the Agricultural Industry.

Barometer —Fall at all places south of Napier and New Plymouth, within ten hours; and later at all other places. Sea heavy on Western coast, and between Castiepoint and Kaikoura. Warnings for northerly gales and rain have been sent to all stations.

Synopsis of last 24 hours Throughout the Colony the barometer has continued rising, and the weather has been generally fine, with moderate to, fresh westerly winds; -
