The nsual monthly meeting of thePatea Fire Brigade took place on Monday night when there was a good attendance of members. The men were - given some instruction at the engine shed and then adjourned to the Albion Hotel to hold their meeting. The Captain said' that owing to the illness of the secretary he was not in possession of the reply from the Borough Council but stated the result of the deputation. There - - was great dissatisfaction at the- small grant offered to the Brigades A resolution was proposed that the Brigade immediately disband , but after a long, discussion this was allowed to be withdrawn and the following' substituted “Proposed by Fireman Abram, seconded by Fireman Kells that the Brigade continue to work as usual till the annual meeting. Carried unanimously. Proposed by Foreman Gibbons,’seconded by Captain Dixon and carried “ That owing to the illness of the Secretary, and not being in possession 'of the official reply from the Borough j Council it be not dealt with : till next- meeting.” 'lt ‘ was resolved that : the Captain should procure 4 sets couplings to suit 'engine. Fireman Kells was elected assistant foreman j Firemen Barraclough and Arthur branchmen and Fireman Abram engine keeper. Messrs Adamson, Heron, T. Kells, and Harris were proposed as members of the Brigade, An account for 7s 6d was passed for payment, ‘and the meeting then adjourned.
