FANCY DRESS BALL.
The first quarter of the Private Assembly having come to a successful termination the committee, resolved; to hold a Fancy Dress- Ball before:commoncing the second 'quarter. . Accordingly, on Wednesday evening, 25 couples responded to the invitations, which were limited on this the Assembly. Dancing St. JameS* Hall at 9 o’clock' Jtttk a March, and was continued through a full - programme,: the- Sir Koger being „ reached a few minutes before ;3, when all dispersed well pleased with their evening’s enter*ainment. The music was,entrusted to Mrs Orchard, and her name is sufficient guarantee that it was well attended to. - The committee (consisting of Messrs-;;Clark,] JVlarks, Neill, and Smart) worked Jicartily, and are to be congratulated on the the first- Fancy Dress Ball of the season. The question as to. who was the belle is of course.outside of the limits of'this notice, but according to the opinion of those competent to judge the palm lay between the lady who represented Welsh life and the Highland lassie. ‘The effect of the costumes as judged from the gallery was pleasing, several of the dresses being really handsome.
