MAORI VIEW OF LIFE INSURANCE.
Mr Clnpcott, the travelling agent for the Government Insurance Department, in a lecture recently delivered by him in Auckland, narrated the. following incident : The lecturer was one day waiting fos' the appearance of (ho owner of a house, who was inside at dinner. A Maori passed t lio lecturer on the street, and accosted him thus : “What yon—you surveyor ?" “No.” “Ah !” rejoined (ho Maori, “Yon doctor?” “No.” The Maori looked non plussod. “Look hero,” said the agent, “yon pay mo two pound—(wo pound. Yon die, the Government pay your wife and piccannins £200—£300.” * “All I kapai,” said the Maori, “I pay now (ho two pound—two pound, yon pay mo the £200.” “No, no !” said the agent, “you die first—your wife get the £200.” “Ka kino,” cried (ho Maori; “no fear mo die. No good insurance." The Maori left. — Auckland Observer.
