A special telegram in the Age says that it was moved at a meeting of the Dublin City Corporation that the Freedom of that City should be conferred on Sir Garnet Wolseloy in recognition of his eminent services in Egypt. The motion on being put to the meeting was negatived. Mr Thomas Thatcher was to-day elected Chairman ofj the County Council, at Wanganui. Attention is directed to Mr A. A. Gower’s advertisement in this issue. Mr Gower has received a large consignment of new goods, which are now being displayed. The programme for the New Year’s gathering of the Caledonian Society has now been issued. There are nineteen events on the card, and some good prizes are offered. Entries]close on Dec 16th with Mr Hyams, the Secretary.
