CRICKET.

The match, Volunteers v. Pa tea Cricket Club, was played - on Saturday last, and resulted in a very easy victory fm-the Volunteers, by seven wickets and two runs. If the Club had had the services of three -members who were absent, the match would have proved a very keenly-contested one; hut, however, we hope, when the return is played, that those who were absent will be able to play. The Volunteers had, with the exception of two men, the strongest team they could muster. Taplin (who captained the Volun ! eers) won the toss, and preferred sending Jacob’s team in -first. They were all disposed of for 26 runs, no one having succeeded in making double figures. The bowling of Doneghuc and Kitching was too good for liberties to he taken with it. The Volunteers then went in, and made 61 runs- Taplin and G. Harden wore the only two who made' double figures, but J. Kitching and M. Carey also batted well. In the second innings of the Club they made a little better stand, putting together a total of 39, of which Read and Tennont contributed 11 each, Carey’s howling in this innings proved very destructive. This left the Volunteers 5 runs to get to win, which they obtained for the loss of three wickets, The following’ are the scores :
