KAKARAMEA.
(from our correspondent.) Monday evening.
The monthly sale of stock at Mr F. R. Jackson’s yards was held on Friday last. There was a large attendance. 64 head of cattle were presented and sold .it the following prices :—Fat cows £4 15s, 2-year-old steers £3 ss, 8-year-old £4 15s, heifers £3 ss, milch cows £5, £6 7s 6d, £6 17s 6d, yearlings £2 ss. Of sheep, 3,900 were presented for sale, the largest number ever yarded at Kakaramea. 730 splendid lambs in wool realised 8s; another lot, also in wool, 7s ; ewes, 10s 8d ; fat sheep, 12s. Two pens ot ewes brought 9s and 7s respectively. All sold but one small lot. Prices of sheep were decidedly in favor of the sellers. There was but little change in the price of cattle. A young son of Mr J. Ball, while playing with his brother on Saturday, fell and broke his arm. He was taken to Patea, and the bone was set. The alteration in the style of the railway fence seems to give satisfaction to the settlers through whose property the line passes. The guage of the wires has been reduced, and intermediate posts have been put in every chain. I hear that the formation of the remaining portion of the line to Manutahi is to be let in one contract. Plate-laying has not yet commenced, although the rails are lying in Patea.
