Bailway Collision
GREAT LOSS OF LIFE. Washington, 14th. A railway collision took place to-day at New Jersey. Two excursion trains collided, and 47 persons have been killed and wounded.
MORE AFGHAN TROUBLES. INCREASING HOSTILITY.
St. Petersburg, 14th
It is currently reported here that Ayoub Khan and Abdul Rahman, the new Ameer, are acting in collusion against the British in Afghanistan.
Calcutta, 14th. Latest intelligence from Candahar is
disquieting, owing to various tribes flocking to join Ayoub Khan. His hostile attitude is increasing, and he is making active preparations for assault on Candahar.
INQUIRY INTO COLLISION. London, 14th
An inquiry lias been held into the cause of the collision which took place on the 19th July between the steamer Centurion and the sailing ship Hydaspes, off Dungencss, by which the latter vessel sunk. The Court found that both vessels were to blame.
SUBMISSION OF BASUTOS. Cape Town, 14th
The Basutos, a native tribe in Habitan tong territory west of Natal, have at last submitted to the colonial troops. There is peace now throughout South Africa.
