{Special to the Mail. ) THREE HOUSES BURNT. Wellington, Friday. A destructive fire occurred last night in Murphy-street, Thorndon. Three houses were burnt, the inmates barely escaping. A strong wind was blowing at the time. RAILWAY DELAY IN NELSON. Nelson, 13th. An indignation meeting was held last night re the delay in accpting tenders for railway contracts ; and a resolution was passed deprecating the action of Government in the matter. MR ACTON ADAMS. Nelson, Frida}'. Nothing raore ; lias been heard of the requisition calling upon Mr Acton Adams to resign. . REE USING. COUNTY .IRATE. Oamaru, 13th. At the meeting'of the County Council to-day, it was decided that no rate should be levied during the current year.
' COURT HOUSE BURNT. Dunedin, Friday. .The Court-house at Tokomairiro has been burnt down, and all the docurhents destroyed. The clerk left a lamp burning \yhile lie went to tea, and it is supposed to have exploded;
AGROUND IN WAIT AHA RIVER. New' Plymouth, Friday. The schooner Telegraphy'while; enter-/ ing the Waitafa’Rivbr this morning, in tow of the Lalla Hookh, went ashoi;e on the North Spit. The Lalla Kookh is rendering all assistance possible.
