As will be seen by an advertisement in another column, a general meeting of the Patea Cricket Club will be held this evening, in the Court House. Mr W, Dale will sell the hull, gear, cabin furniture, &c., of the s.s. Egmont, to-day, at 11 o’clock, notice of which appears in onr advertising columns. A large number of persons having come from Wanganui and elsewhere to inspect the steamer, keen competition is antics pated, and the Underwriters will no donut make a far better bargain than is usual on such occasions. After the sale of the wreck, a quantity of grass seed will bo offered.
In our report of the Kakarcmea ball, we gave credit where credit was not due, and omittted acknowledgment where it should have been made. We stated that Mr Di.ion lent the piano, whereas it was the courtesy of Mrs Mcßae that supplied the instrument. We also omitted to mention that Mrs Mcßae most kindly played during a large portion of the evening. We sincerely regret to learn that Mr Marchant, of Waxroa, met with a rather dangerous accident on Monday last. He had a fall, which resulted in a very serious dislocation of the shoulder, and it was with considerable tfifficulty that Dr Walker was able to reduce it. The injury, as it singularly happened, took place in the sufferer's own house, where, as a matter of course, every attention could be paid to him and, we are glad to say, he is progressing favorably. Mr Vine,- whose accident we last week chronicled, is at least no worse, and there is now great hope of his being able to bo restored. He has the most unremitting care, Mrs Vine being in attendance on him. In such hands there is every prospect of recovery.
