OLD RESIDENTS
OF MANGAMUTU, When introducing Mr K, Holy oak' to those present at last night’s meeting at Mangamutu, an interesting observation was made by the chairman, Mr J. G. Brechin, when lie stated that there wer© at least three gentlemen, who, by length of year s as residents of Mangamutu (or Scarborough as it was called wuen Mr Holvoake was born there) had a better right than the s|>eaker to act as chairman. These were Mr Dan O’Brien, Mr Jas McCardle, ami Mr Arthur Cleghorn. The two latter gentlemen were unable to be present because of the fact that they were not in the best of health, while Mr O’Brien was absent from the district.
Subsequently, in eon.vocation with a *‘Herald” representative, Mr Brechin stated that he should lure included in the bracket of old residents. the name of Mr W. Gilbert, ;% gentleman who lias been a resident of the district almost from the days of its foundation, and who still evinces a keen interest in its progress.
