A SILVER LINING Fortunately there is nearly always a very cheerful silver lining to the dark clouds that occasionally overhang the prospects of the New Zealand farmer. The big drop in the price of wool and mutton that has taken place lately has been the cause of much anxiety. If wool and mutton have fallen in price, the reverse is likely to be with the beef Last sales at Palmerston revealed a sharp rise, and all available supplies have been bought up by one or other of the big meat companies. Buyers from the South have been scouring the West Coast for big beef which they intended to ship to tlio other island, but mostly in vain, as they lave been forestalled in most instances. The freezing companies, theugli shut down now, arc preparing for a busy time as soon as the fleee*' is off, which should help to harden up prices for mutton well as providing an abundance of work for a large number of bauds.
