R.A.F. and Canadian bombers dropped liundn d s of bombs on Berlin last niglifc, despite strong defences m the shape of searchlights, guns and fighters. At one time there were so many fighters up that our pilots could not relax for one moment The enemy adopted a new defensive technique. They used huge flares which lit up the skies with a strong white light. The new method however, worked both ways as the swarms ol enemy fighters were often caught in the light of tlie flar<\ s and many fierce air battles resulted as our planes struck. Some 15 enemy fighters were shot down a.nd we lost 47 bombers, including eight Canadian planes. Bostons' and Flying Fortress *s were over Northern Fianc© and Belgium today in strong attacks on enemy airfields. Typhoon pilots scored hits on a sea-goin-or barge off the Dutch coast a.nd Spitfires damaged another barge. All of our planes »e----turned safely.
