GATHERING AT PONGAROA
FAREWELL TO REV. AND MRS. COOK MANY TRIBUTES PAID A large gathering of parishioners and friends assembled in the Masonic Hall, Pongaroa, oa Monday evening to bid farewell to Rev. and Mrs G. I*. Cook, who iu’ o leaving on transfer to Patna During his stay as vicar in charge of the PongaroaMangatiinoka parish, Mr Cook has endeared himself tc a wide circle of friends and lias proved a. highly popular and efficient minister. The earlier part of the evening was occupied by games, competitions rnd community singing, winners of the competitions being Mesdaines A. Rankin and F. H. Mayman and Margaret Jensen. Mr W E. Davies, people’s warden, on behalf of the parishioners, expressed the regret that all felt at the departure of Mr and Mrs Cook and assurred the guests that they carried with them the good wishes of the community. He then presented Mr C >ok with a substantial cheque. Others who spoke in support of Mr Davies were, Messrs H. H. Harold (Roman Catholic Church), W. F. Robertson (Presbyterian Church), and F. PI. Mayman and A. M. Theed. (vestrymen). Supper was then served, a very pleasant function concluding with the National Anthem.
