HOME GUARD BALI. Members of the Makomako Platoon entertained their lady friends on a recent evening in the Makomako Hall, made gaj with summer flowers and Hags of the - United Nations. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs A. Tait with extras by Homeguardsman Ebbett (accordion) and Miss Joyce Ebbett. Cpl. R. Day and He. Brian Lozell were in charge of the floor aavd all the arrangements for the success of the evening were due to those two Guardsmen. The Monte Carlo | u iz© went to Mrs J. Johnstone and partner, v/hil© a s|»ecial prize for the first couple on the floor in the 6th dance went to Miss A. Sonntag and Mr J. Cork ill. and the dinners of tlie Lucky Gay Gordons wer© Mrs Lodell and H.G. •J. Klwiii. A tasty supper provided by flie ladies was served by the Home Guardsmen. Dancing "ontiuued until a late hour and proceedings terminated with the National Anthem. TENNIS. The local club held a tournament on New Year’s Day when members and their visitors spent a pleasant afternoon. Prizes went to Miss F. Ness and Malcolm Angove PERSONAL. Mrs J. Johnstone and Mr Howaid of Palmerston North spent the Xmas holidays with Mrs W. Klvin, at NTkau.' Visitors to Mr and Mi's \Y. G. Callender for Xmas were Mrs MoEwan Mason, of Wellington, Mr s Peter Jacobsen and her airman husband. Miss M. Beech, Wellington, was a visitor to Mrs M. J. Beech, MangaJiao, for Xmas. Masters Roger aJid Alex Day. of Gladstone, are spending the school holidays with Mrs W. F. Day. Flight-Lieut. and Mrs A. M. Fletcher were visitors to Mr ami Mrs W. G. Eising for the New Year. Mr VV. McLeod, Colyton. and Mrs B. Smith, K.imboltoii, are sj>eiiding a holiday with Mr and Mr s G VV. Eddie. Mr G. Easton spent tlie Xmas holidays at Taumarunui and Gisborne. Mr A. J. Cathie has returned alter 10 days spent in Masterton. Miss Moiiie McPeak, ot Woodville, spent a week’s holiday with Mr and Mrs W. G- Eising. Misses M. and E.
