POWER BOARD MEETING
81-MONTHLY METER READING The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tararua Electric Power Board was held at Eketahuna last Friday when Mr P. Davies, chairman, presided over Messrs J. B. Carruthers, W. Britland, Thos. Fouhy, E. W. Cheetham, S. J. Judd, C. T. Richardson and L. Johnston. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. W. Bisset, J. G. Brechin and P. S, Page. On behalf of the board Mr P. Davies conveyed congratulations to Messrs J B. Carruthers, A. W. Bisset and E. W. Cheetham on being reelected chairman to the Eketahuna, Pahiatua and Maurioeville County Councils respectively. His remarks y ere endorsed by the other members present with acclamation. A motion of sympathy to Mr J. A. Nash of Palmerston North on the death of his wife, was carried. Mr Nash has now l>een president of the Power Boards' Association for some years. An urgent appeal was received from the Electricity Controller for the board to do what it can to get its consumers to conserve electricity where ever possible as the position is serious. It w&s left to the management to see that the regulations were carried out. Mr Carruthers gave notice of motion to amend the resolution that an electric water heater would not he installed unless a wired in range was installed to alter the resolution to enable the Board to deal with any cases that it considered exceptional. It was decided to circularise consumers who previously had their meters read monthly, that in future the meters would only be read every second month but an assessed account would be sent out for the month in between. This procedure has been adopted so as to save petrol and motor tyres and also to utilise some of the meter reader’s time for other work. Tlie Treasurer’s Financial Statement v for the two months ended 31st May revealed that total cash received amounted to £BO2B made up of £6366 from electricity, £1656 from trading department and £lO6 from miscellaneous. Expenditure during the same period amounted to £6325. The total gross sales of electricity to 30th April am minted to £2Oll being a £7 increase on the same month last year. Gross trading sales for the tw ( > months ended 31st May amounted to £792 l>cing a decrease of £904 on the same period last year.
