PACKING PARCELS AND HAMPERS. (Own Correspondent) - There was a good attendance at the Junto meeting. After business bad been disposed of members spent a busy afternoon packing parcels tor our local lads overseas (4) and tor our quota to the Patriotic Council (2). Thanks are due to those who contributed generously to the contents of these parcels also to those who sent contributions ot takes and biscuits for the hamper which was packed for the military hospitals m the Wairurapa area. This hamper containing 30 dozen small goods was forwarded through. the Masterton Red Cross Centre, who have requested Women’s Institutes and other organisations to undertake the eouection and dispatch of th e goods at regular intervals. Members decided to bring old files to the next meeting to assist in the war effort. Mrs Hoggard read the thought for the month: “Do we realise l,ow far-reach-ing is our unconscious influence?” ‘The character of a generation is moulded by jx-rsonal character.” The best bloom competition re- ; * lilted as follows:—Mrs Eddie 1, Mrs Day 2, Mrs Hoggard 3. _

PERSONAL. W. A.. li. Day spent week-end leave at her home. Mr., Gavin Callender and Miss M. " "iionias of Palmerston North, spent tnr _(eek-end as the guests of Miami Mrs W. G. Callender. Mr Bert Harnett, Aria. King Country, is on a visit to relatives ill this district Mrs W. El win is spending a holiday in Palmerston North and Wellington. Mr K. Beech. Mangnhao is spending a few days’ holiday at Hamilton and Auckland. A successful competitor at the Feilding Dog Trials was Mr G. W. Eddie with, 'black” who gained a second ii\ the “maiden” also Mr Boddy’s trophy for “the best head for tlie day” in the Open class. Gnr. Colin Eddie is an inmate of Wellington Hospital having received injuries while playing for “Army” in a recent football match.
