Army Air Fore© officials disclosed that after experimenting they have tentatively adopted four types of metal mesh strip constructed for portable runways and useable for emergency airfields, in combat areas. It is explained that several typos are required for different terrain which can be expected in battlezones. Some art' designed for fighters, whil ' others are for bombers up to 25 tons. Test bombing and shelling of the runways has shown that artillery is more damaging, due to a tearing effect.
