LOCAL RED CROSS APPEAL CLOSES TOMORROW SCHOOL GIRLS’ PATRIOTIC ENTHUSIASM. A final appeal is issued io th* residents of Pahiatua and district to make their contributions to the local fund for the combined Red Cross and Order of St. John Appeal. Locally, this appeal closes tomorrow and it is anticipated that the sum already in hand—£3lß6 4s sd—will be considerably augmented by a rush of last minute donations. The amounts raised as the result of the Paddy's Market and the St Peter’s Senior Girls’ Club Concert have not been added to the total mentioned above and when they come to hand the Pahiatua fund should be in the vicinity of £3300. In connection with the appeal a commendable spirit of patriotism was shown by five school girls, Dawn Wright Heather Stanley, Betty Cook. Naomi Dolman and Margaret Cook, who purchased a box of chocolates, each contributing one shill ing towards the cost. The box was then offered a s a prize for a competition at threepence a ticket and realised IBs. The Mayor, Mr S. K. Siddells drew the’ competition, the winner being Naomi Dolman.
