HOMER TUNNEL

POSSIBILITY OF WINTER WORK Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, March 21. The possibility of continuing work 911 the driving of the Homer tunnel heading during the winter will be investigated by the Minister of Public TV orks (Mr Semple) when he visits the Homer Saddle to-day. The Minister said in Dunedin on his arrival that if it were found possible to keep the work going during the winter with safety, progress could be expedited to a great extent. A considerable amount of avalanche protection work has been carlied out at the tunnel mouth during the last year, and the extent to winch this has been done will probably influence the Minister in makmg liis decision after he inspects the work. The driving of the bottom heading, which is actually a smaller tunnel, has now gone beyond halfway, and wheir this has been finished it will permit of much greater speed in the excavation of the tunnel itself.
