WORKS COMMITTEE

REPORTS TO BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Works Committee reported as follows to Monday's Borough Council meeting on a meeting held on Friday, February 10th, 1939: “Municipal Swimming Baths: That the converting of the room adjacent to the caretaker’s room into a convenience for men, and the levelling and regrading of the concrete in front of the shower bath be deferred until the commencement of the next swimming season. “Recreation Ground: That the second shed be placed behind the first shed and converted into public conveniences, and that the first shed bo repaired. That the main gate be chained and locked and that a key be lodged with the Town Clerk, the overseer and with Mr '-Water supply to J. Hunt’s and Bengston’s: Mr Hunt made applicafor the laying of water mains to his property in Tudor Road. An estimate was ' given for the work amounting to approximately £3/. Messrs Bengston and Hunt offered to contribute £5 each towards the cost of laying a one-inch water main from ' Osborne’s property in George Street to tin* front, oJ Messrs Bengston and Hunt’s properties m Tudor Road. Moved by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Murphy: That Messrs Hunt and Bengston’s offer to contribute £5 each towards tin* cost of the work be accepted.—Carried. ‘-Borough metal dump: In view Ol the fact that the metal dump at the end of Huia Street is now full, it was decided to make a metal dump in Queen Street between Huxley Street and Tudor Road. •Courthouse frontage: It was decided to give the Courthouse frontage another coat of tar. “Main Street tar-sealing: The Town Clerk was instructed to communicate with the District Main Highways Engineer and ascertain whether an early start is to he made to re-seal the Main Street. “Borough plant: It was decided to purchase a stuhiping jack.” The Works Committee's recommendations were adopted.
