MANGAMUTU WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. THE MONTHLY MEETING. The Mangamutu Women's Institute held their February meeting in the hall last Wednesday. The president (Mrs L. J. Heayns) presided over a fair attendance of members. Several apologies for absence were received. The secretary was asked to send a letter of appreciation for work done while a member of the Institute to Mrs' Balsom, who has recently left the district. Mrs Heayns’ interesting demonstration on pine-needle work was was much appreciated by all, for which she was accorded a vote of thanks. Arrangements were made for the annual meeting, which, takes place next month, and nominations for the committee were taken. The monthly competition (a plate of scones) was judged by popular vote, Mrs Needham being placed first, with Mrs Macdonald second. Another competition, articles in ladies’ handbag. caused much amusement 'and was won by Mrs F. Parkes. Mrs J. E. Macdonald proved the winner of the “Lucky Spot” on the tea cup. A vote of thanks was accorded the hostesses. Mrs H. W. Butcher and Mrs Needham. A happy afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
