FIRST MEETING IN 1939. The opening meeting for 1939 was held m the County Council Chambers on Tuesday. February 7th. Airs Day (president) presiding over a good attendance of members. AI rs J. D. Piper was appointed delegate to attend the Provincial Council meeting at Alasterton on February Bth. when a presentation was made to Airs C. C. Jackson. It was decided that the Alarch meeting would take the form of a social afternoon. There would be a speaker to give a short talk, and besides items there would be competitions for the # best plain sponge, the best butter sponge, and for decorated jam jar. Prizes were kindly donated by Alesdames W Fergus, J. Moynahan and F. W. Ebbett. There would be no bring and buy stall but the sponges would be sold for funds. The annual shop day, the funds from which are to provide the on© shilling levy per member for the Awapuni Rest Home, is to be held in Mr Wills’ shop during February. It is hoped all members will give it their generous support, as funds are needed. February 18th is to be a big day in the annals of Division history. On that day the new Rest Home at Awapuni is to be formally opened. The event is being marked with a huge garden party, commencing at 1 p.m., to which all members are invited. Airs Day urged members to make every effort to attend this function, suggesting that each district make up a car-load. Those attending are asked to take a plate. An invitation was also received from the Dannevirke branch to their birthday party to he held in the National Club Building commencing at 1.30 p.m.
