DETOUR MAINTENANCE.
* P.W.D. APPROVE OF COUNTY’S CLAIM. Regarding detour maintenance on the Manawatu Gorge section of the Palmerston North Main Highway, the Public Works Department wrote as follows to yesterday’s meeting of the Pahiatua County Council: “Your letter of tin- 15th November lias been referred to the Main Highways Board and I now have to advise that the Board ha«s approved payment of £260 being made xo your Council to cover the cost of the’ • xtra maintenance on the roads concerned during the time they were used as ,i detour ior highway .traffic consequent upon the temporary (losing of the Manawatu Gorge. ■ ‘There is no necessity lor your Council to submit- a claim for 'he above amount which will be paid as soon as possible 33 It was dec-i(Ted that a letter be sent to the Department thanking them for heir fairness in the matter.
