Within a year the Netherlands Bank lias transferred secret deposits abroad amounting to £44,000,000, which is a quarter oi the country’s gold holdings The transfers ar * reported to have been inspired not only by fear of seizure of the gold ir war time but bv the necessity to be able to buy food-tsuffs in the event of an emergency.
