TO-DAY’S VOTING
i Correspondence is welcomed on interesting subjects, but we do not necessarily endorse the opinions oi correspondents). (To the Editor). Sir, —Could you spare a small space in your valuable columns to advertise my humble opinion on the subject of to-day’s voting. If £19,000 is approximately the estimated cost of Mangahao Scheme, we would have been glad to hear some of the advantages to be gained thereby, such as reducing the rate to its lowest fraction by incomes from varied rentals accruing to .lie Council Board The question in which to pay back the loan would be immaterial, even if it reached out to the next generation or even the one following that. These people would for an infinitesimal amount of interest be deriving an everlasting supply of water, voluminous in quantity and unique in quality. In the alternative scheme these two advantages would still be in the lap of the gods. Even if we cut out the past failures on that “Will o' the Wisp' project. Though our public buildings that house our Mayor and Councillors, the library and theatre are not elaborate they at least are fairly comfortable and not yet arrived at a state of dilapidation and they represent only a. small portion of the community. whereas the Mangahao scheme would be fulfilling a very pre<sent crying want to every man. woman and child in our town and surrounding district. We would have no more curtailing of water tap supply directly the summer months set in when more water is urgently required. By all means let us have ‘‘our town beautiful.” but utility must first give Ug a lasting foundauon.— 1 am, etc.,
