THE KIDDIES’ NIGHT
PAHIATUA SCHOOL PARTY PROVES OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. Despite the icy blasts and the chill of the snow-flaked air, the annual fancy dress party of the Pahiatua District High School, held in the Drill Hall, Pahiatua, last night, was an outstanding success. Soon after seven o'clock cars began to line the streets adjacent to the hall and by 7.30, when the grand march was begun, the hall was a mass of happy children—all bedecked in costumes of every kind and colour, shape and size. The costuming of the children was a credit to the ingenuity and zeal of their parents, who had obviously put in many hours of preparation work. The youngsters went through a varied programme of ball-room and folk dances, which they performed with credit to themselves and their teachers. The teaching staff- as usual were well to the fore in superintending the dances, and marshalling them in an ordeily manner tor the attack oil the bountiful supper which, needless to say, was entered into with zest. It is to the credit of the ladies’ committee that the kiddies finished second in the battle, although they made valiant elforts to make a clean sweep. The infants and classes up to Std. 1 had a little show on their own and earned great admiration for their appearance in the Grand March, led by Marjorie Gill and Bruce Mills. The Grand March for the older pupils was led by Valerie Noble and Jack Beales. After the children had been treated to supper the adults took the floor and danced till 1 a.m. to the music of the Hicks-Brooker Band, there being a surprisingly large number of dancers in attendance.
