She had been introduced to the large audience for the opening nigtit by the president of the Woodville Institute, Mrs. N. M. Burnett, who apologised for the absence of th© Jederation president. Air". The festival was continued throughout Saturuay and closed tnat night with, tiio presentation o* trophies and awards by Alls. Mackie. Paterson’s conflation trophy to the drama tc‘am gaining the most points and not Lacing a win, went to Alakomako. Having presented the trophies Airs Macky said this festival was a landmark in women’s institute history us it was the first ever to take plate iu an institute hall. She then proceeded to thank all those who had in any way assisted in the arrangements for the conduct of the festival. Th© several judges lor the occasion were: For drama. Mi. E. X. Hogb© it of Dannevirke. For the folk dancing. Aliss J. Lovell-femith, ol Hastings and for the glee-singing Air. J. Holnies-R minifies, ol Palmerston North. When finally announcing hi s decision Air. Hog ben said he was tremendously appreciative of tin* drama work of the women’s institute. He said he felt that by promoting this work they were doing one ol the best unrecognised services to the country known to exist. “1 have been struck by the high standard of performance on a level maintained almost throughout,” he said, “and if 1 were asked what was the outstanding feature ol the festival. 1 should say it wa> team-work.
