GLASS BLOCKADE

The misfortune of a milkman at Christchurch recently directly benefited the Tramway Board to the extent of 4d—an unwilling passenger’s fare from Papanui to the city. The said passenger commonly drives to work in his own ear. but some time in the small hours an unlucky milkman slipped on the frosty footpath outside the gate, and his bottles shattered themselves on the footpath. Having no desire to cut his tyres on the broken glass and no time to sweep the footpath if he were not to be late lor work, the motorist had perforce to leave his car in the garage and join his plebeian neighbours on the 7.40 tram.
