FOOTBALL AT NIREAHA
VISIT FROM PAHIATUA
On Saturday afternoon the Nireaha third grade team played the Pahiatua team oil the Nireaha domain. The ground was in good order, but. frequent rain showers n ade the ball hard to handle The local boys were an energetic lot and were always on the ball. The visiting team had a fast set of backs but conditions did not suit them For Nireaha, R* Death kicked two penalty goals. Pahiatua’s points came from a penalty goal and an unconverted try. Air Bert Rogers refereed. So far this season the Nireaha team has lemained undefeated.
Following this match, the Pahiatua seniors played the Nireaha boys and treated the spectators to a good exhibition of Rugby. Nireaha, however, were in good form and won the match 12—3 Pahiatua were unlucky in that two players had to leave the' field. Snowy' Kershaw with an injured shoulder, and another boy with a broken rib. Murch, theii paev three-quarter, played, but was still nursing an injured ankle and little was seen of him. Nlireuha forwards outplayed the visiting pack and gave the backs little respite. For Pahiatua. B. Murch kicked a penalty goal arid for Nireaha G. Shannon scored t\v<> tries, and R. Lav-rence* one try and a penalty goal. The referee was Mr C. Skilton At the conclusion of play, the teams and spectators wor-> given afternoon tea a:, the local hall.
